Project Gutenberg is an online resource for free ebooks/textbooks. There are dedicated 'bookshelves' for many areas of interest.

Advantages: Free textbooks and ebooks online, usually available in multiple formats to suit various mobile devices.

Disadvantages: Free ebooks, but nothing beyond that.
